Job Title: Outside Sales Representative - Northern Detroit Suburbs

Reports to: Sales Manager

Compensation: Full-Time / Exempt / Salary + Commission

Location:   Detroit area

 

SUMMARY

Cherry Capital Foods (CCF) is the premier food distributor of Michigan grown and produced food and is part of Tamarack Holdings' family of food companies.  The Outside Sales Representative will expand CCF's presence in the Northern Detroit Suburbs by selling from our catalogue of produce, proteins and value-added products to restaurants (chefs) and specialty retail customers.  These offerings will also include an extensive line of gourmet mushrooms and wild foraged produce from our sibling company, Earthy Delights.    This position is home-office based with heavy travel throughout the assigned sales region to build and maintain customer relationships, as well as occasional travel to CCF's locations in Lansing and Traverse City, Michigan.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Maximize sales in Northern Detroit Suburbs by providing exceptional customer service and creating long-term, quality relationships with key professional chef contacts.

  2. Understand customer food needs and expand customers' awareness of CCF and Earthy Delights' line of products.   

  3. Build relationships through customer visits, calls, and cold calls; 50% or more time spent in the field with customers.

  4. Prospect new customers as well as maintain a current customer base.

  5. Manage order confirmation and entry of orders. Utilize Inventory Management Software to enter customer sales, check inventory, plan for additional sales, and compile data on sales activity for territory.

  6. Develop orders for a weekly sales cycle & hit weekly, quarterly, and yearly sales goals.

  7. Coordinate among departments to accomplish the work required to close sales.

  8. Maintain account organization through Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software.

  9. Utilize a variety of communication tools: email, Slack, video conference, smart phone and the Google platform to stay connected remotely.

  10. Participate in occasional marketing events such as seminars, trade shows, round table discussions and special events.

  11. Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Possess a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience, with business acumen.

  2. Ideal candidate will possess 3 to 5 years of sales experience, preferably in the food industry.  Understanding of local/regional food systems and the benefits they bring to our community and state is a plus.

  3. Requires strong computer skills and understanding of spreadsheet software.

  4. Must be self-motivated, goal-oriented, comfortable working with little or no direction, and have excellent interpersonal communication skills.

  5. Must possess a consultative, relationship-based approach to Sales.  

  6. This position requires possession of a valid state driver's license and a reliable vehicle at all times of employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  1. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending or standing on a stool as necessary.

  2. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.

  3. Work involves a variety of environments: office, warehouse, and outdoor weather. Exposure to a variety of temperatures in the warehouse, freezers, and coolers, and around building grounds is possible - personal protective equipment is provided.
