Job Title: Sales Manager

Reports to: Director of Sales and Purchasing

Compensation: Full-Time / Exempt / Salary

Location: Traverse City, Remote Flexibility


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Drive and motivate the CCF Sales Team to meet and exceed budgeted sales.
  • Coach, mentor, and train the team, as a group and individually, as needed; collaborate with Human Resources and Executive leadership on training resources/plans.
  • Share overall leadership of the CCF Sales Team with the Dir. of Sales and Purchasing
  • Collaborate with Dir. of Sales and Purchasing on planning and tracking of annual budget, goals, KPIs, etc.
  • Hold bi-weekly check-ins/planning sessions, and scheduled field visits with each sales representative.
  • Actively coach individual sales representatives to broaden skills and drive performance; provide training, coaching, and monitoring of performance goals to ensure that their monthly and annual sales goals are attained. This includes active management of monthly sales plans and personal participation in key customer meetings/prospecting.
  • Serve as a key resource for the CCF Sales Team on day-to-day issues: problem-solving on orders and other issues, managing time off (PTO) and establishing coverage of accounts for vacations or illness, other duties as needed to keep the team functioning.
  • Work closely with Dir. of Sales and Purchasing on reporting and tracking of Annual, Monthly, and Weekly Sales Goals and KPIs.
  • Work closely with Dir. of Sales and Purchasing to develop and track special sales incentive programs to motivate the team and strategically boost results.
  • Participate with staff from other departments to plan and problem-solve.
  • Up to 50% travel, including field visits to customers, "work withs" with sales representatives, other meetings and conferences as required.
  • Manage the workload/flow of Inside Sales Support Team.
  • Ensure key sales processes are occurring in an accurate and timely manner: order entry, customer credits, customer onboarding.
  • Oversee end-of-day check for order accuracy, resolution of over-selling issues, late order requests, and troubleshoot problems with warehouse(s) and logistics.
  • Ensure new customer onboarding is happening with consistency and efficiency.
  • Train, coach, and mentor new sales representatives.
  • Ultimately responsible for Sales Team communication promoting respectful and effective communication between all levels of the organization as well as externally.  
  • Ensure employee handbook policies and other employee guidelines are being followed; promote a positive, productive work environment.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Possess a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience, with business acumen.
  • Ideal candidate will possess 5+ years of sales experience, preferably in the food industry. Understanding of local/regional food systems and the benefits they bring to our community and state is a plus.
  • Requires strong computer skills and comfort level learning/utilizing a variety of software platforms.
  • Must be self-motivated, goal-oriented, comfortable making decisions, and have excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must possess a consultative, relationship-based approach to Sales.
  • This position requires possession of a valid state driver's license and a reliable vehicle.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  1. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bending or standing on a stool as necessary.
  2. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
  3. Work involves a variety of environments: office, warehouse, and coolers/freezers. Exposure to a variety of temperatures is possible - personal protective equipment is provided.
